Are you in the market to get more performance out of your car? If so, you are faced with a large number of choices as the "aftermarket" industry in the automobile world is very robust. One of the ways that you can increase performance and make your car look and sound better is to install a dual exhaust system. What is this and why is it beneficial?
Why Is the Exhaust Important?
At first glance you may think that an exhaust system is purely a "secondary" component. In other words, all of the work happens within the engine and the exhaust system just gets rid of the aftermath. However, the exhaust itself has a fundamental role to play in terms of achieving performance. It should be made from the best material for longevity, but it also has to be engineered very precisely to positively affect the performance of the engine.
Finely Balanced Systems
An exhaust pipe that is poorly made (or one that is designed with too many bends in it) will restrict the ability of the engine to turn as fast as it might otherwise. This is because the system will not be able to get rid of the gases that are being produced during the combustion phase with maximum efficiency and that will simply not allow the engine to turnover as much. However, the answer is not simply to fit a bigger exhaust system without thinking too much about it, because if the diameter of the exhaust pipe is too big, conversely, it won't provide the necessary compression. In other words, there is a fine balance.
Where You Can Benefit the Most
This is where a dual exhaust system will benefit. Owners of "V" configuration engines stand to gain probably the most by fitting this type of exhaust system. The V6 or V8 engine has two different banks of cylinders, but often the exhaust manifold systems converge into one pipe which leads to the back of the car.
You can fit an opposite dual exhaust setup, where there are two distinct pipes (one from each bank of cylinders) which exit to the back of the car. There will be less distance to travel for the exhaust gases in each case, and the performance characteristics of each bank of cylinders can be maximised accordingly. In this case, it will be possible to considerably increase the horsepower output of the engine in total and therefore the performance.
Other Benefits
Not only that, but you should be able to tune the fuel economy as well and lead to less wear and tear on the engine over time. For those people who like to hear "the music" when the engine is running, dual exhaust system will certainly enhance their pleasure.

Hi, my name is Scott and I’m an amateur mechanic. I don’t have a lot of spare cash so I recently bought a used car, which I’m fixing up myself with some help from a friend. I know that it’ll take some time to get things just the way I like them; I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I want my car to run well and look good. A few weeks ago, I started looking at car seat covers. I thought that this would be one of the easier jobs I had on my car but I hadn’t realised how many options there were to choose from! It took a bit of research, but I’ve now chosen some custom covers that I should be fitting soon. I started this site to hopefully help other car lovers who are looking for auto accessories.
