If you're going to be installing new speakers in your car to improve your car audio system, you'll also want to install a new amplifier. If that doesn't sound necessary, just read through the following four points – if you don't pair your new speakers with a new amplifier, you won't be getting the most out of them.
1. Amplifiers Provide More Power
Most factory audio systems include a low-power amplifier meant to drive power to the relatively small speakers installed as standard with most cars. However, the new speakers you install are almost certainly going to demand more power. An aftermarket amplifier is necessary to provide adequate power for the best possible sound quality. This is even more important if you're also installing a subwoofer, since these require far more power than standard factory speakers. If you don't pair your new speakers up with an aftermarket amplifier, you might just have wasted your money.
2. Amplifiers Improve Sound Quality
Most people understand that amplifiers bring more power, but few appreciate the difference they make to overall sound quality. An external amplifier, which the vast majority of cars do not carry as standard, can help reproduce the original sound quality of a recording. Sound quality doesn't matter too much to most drivers, so standard audio systems use small internal amps that sacrifice quality for reduced space. But if you want to hear every instrument clearly, you'll need the clarity provided by a good aftermarket amplifier. Additionally, a properly-fitted amplifier will help concentrate sound within the cabin rather than projecting it outwards.
3. Multiple Channels
One of the things you'll notice while looking at aftermarket amplifiers is that they tend to have lots of different channels. You need at least one channel for each speaker, but you can also add separate amplifiers for individual speakers or, more commonly, for the external subwoofer. The great thing about that variety is that you can fit your amplifier around your new speakers. Additionally, you'll enjoy greater flexibility in the future since those extra channels will allow you the freedom to add upgrades.
4. Improved Efficiency
You might assume that adding an amplifier to your car would drain more power. However, you can actually make your sound system more efficient by adding a high-quality amplifier, which is extremely important if you're also tricking out your ride with larger, more powerful speakers. Amplifiers don't just provide power; they also ensure that it is used efficiently.

Hi, my name is Scott and I’m an amateur mechanic. I don’t have a lot of spare cash so I recently bought a used car, which I’m fixing up myself with some help from a friend. I know that it’ll take some time to get things just the way I like them; I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I want my car to run well and look good. A few weeks ago, I started looking at car seat covers. I thought that this would be one of the easier jobs I had on my car but I hadn’t realised how many options there were to choose from! It took a bit of research, but I’ve now chosen some custom covers that I should be fitting soon. I started this site to hopefully help other car lovers who are looking for auto accessories.
